Training with JC

Training Resume

John Christmas has trained 200+ All-Americans to date and had the opportunity to coach high-level middle school & high school teams, the Dukes Lacrosse Club, the #1 select summer travel team in the country, Alcatraz Outlaws, ACES lacrosse club, Silver City Lacrosse Club as well as a year of Division 1 college lacrosse with the University of Pennsylvania. More importantly, the things John learned from playing alongside and against the best players in the world from the MLL, NLL, LXMPro, and the club tour circuit has made him well equipped to continue to be innovative and in the forefront of the “modern day lacrosse player.” Currently, John is the head coach at De La Salle High School in Concord California and the Offensive Coordinator for the Uganda National Team.

Training Points

Developmental training focuses on developing techniques that deal with upper and lower body mechanics of shooting on the run and with time and room shooting for all players. We also work on the proper form for effective and deceptive feeding and shooting: this involves using your eyes, head and shoulders to hold and freeze goalies and defensemen. We will work on moving without the ball, ways to identify where the best passing lanes will be, and anticipating the ball carrier’s movement to get in a better area to be an outlet or in position to shoot. We will stress the importance of having soft hands, “catching the ball deep” and getting rid of unnecessary cradling when a player is in possession of the ball.

Defensively we will work on footwork, toolbox developmental checks that we encourage players to utilize, off-ball principles and teaching how to properly bump and hit players when defending.

Goalies will be lead by goalie specific coaches that will cover stance, hand placement, hand-eye coordination and communication.

John Christmas includes video assessment of his players. John says, “This is crucial in a players development – it lends to my motto, ‘Seeing is believing'”. Lastly, upon request, John likes to give his player’s game film ideas of a certain player who they should watch and try to mold their game after. Players can also go to www.accesslacrosse.com and watch a variety of full length game film and find players they like (indoor and outdoor games).

Please have your son fill out John’s 141 player questionnaire form so we have a better idea of what type of player he is.
